5-day trek from Dana Nature Reserve to the ancient city of Petra.
Enter Petra via the back route past the Monastery.
Enjoy the hospitality of our Bedouin guides.
Staying at Dana Guesthouse the night before you start the trek is a great option! This allows you to have some more time to get settled and enables you to start the hike early the next day.
Don’t miss the sunset. There are a limited number of rooms at this cliffside hikers retreat, so be sure to book early and secure your spot!
Feynan Ecolodge is located conveniently along the trail and is one of the top ecolodges in the world. The Ecolodge is candlelit at night, saving electricity and providing a romantic atmosphere.
Feynan Ecolodge is the only fixed accommodation in the area and also has limited availability. So if planning a hike during peak season, we recommend booking around a year ahead.
Our wilderness camps provides a nice escape from everyday life, great views, and good service. In fact, some people may refer to it as “glamping.”
Our local bedouin support sets up the campsite during the day, so everything is prepared when you arrive. Upon arrival, enjoy some time to sit down, relax and have some bedouin tea. Then when dinner is ready, our bedouin support will reveal the locally made feast.
We provide private or 2-person tents depending on your preference. In the tents we provide foam mattresses and sheets. Therefore, no sleeping bags are needed unless you want to bring your own.

I highly recommend Experience Jordan. They crafted a Dana to Petra trek for us that was outstanding. We hiked by day and every afternoon, we would trek to a fully set up camp. Mahmoud the guide was full of knowledge and patient as we took photos. Mahmoud and Jamal the chefs made some delicious dinners.
Mohammed at the office easily dealt with our on-the-fly logistical changes, and we really appreciated his flexibility.

The contrasting landscapes and biodiversity of the mutli-day hike from Dana Reserve to Little Petra is an attraction in and of itself, but what really makes the journey unique is the range of historic sites along the way. The walk begins in the recent ruins of Dana Village, providing a picture of village life in Jordan in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The trail leads you down through Feynan, this site of ancient copper mines dating back 3,000 years and speculated by some to be the source of Biblical King Salomon’s great wealth. As you continue on your journey the path leads you past watchtowers from the Roman Empire until you finally reach the impressive facades built by the Nabatean’s in Little Petra.
Experiencing the landscape through knowledgeable guides from Experience Jordan provides for a rich journey through time with the benefit of learning the context for the places you pass. Besides the interesting sites along the way, the three day hike was supported by vehicles and wonderful cooks who kept us well fed and greeted us with a welcome cup of tea at the end of every day’s hike. Altogether a wonderful experience.
Generally we like to include all meals during the hike. However, for the sightseeing portions of the trips, the meals provided are flexible. Breakfast and dinner in hotels are buffet meals. Additionally, Lunch is a pack lunch with all your water provided.
Transportation is provided in private, air-conditioned vehicles, with excellent drivers starting and ending in Amman. Depending on your trips exact logistics, some short local transfers will be in an open back 4×4 vehicle. In addition, luggage transfer is included in all of our hikes.
Accommodations can be in a variety of forms: often hotels at the start, a Bedouin camp at the finish, with tents and campsites set up during the walk.
We generally use expert, licensed tour guides as lead guide for our Dana to Petra Treks. Then on certain days, we provide a local bedouin guide with his donkey to provide extra support, authenticity, and to support the local economy.
