E-Biking in Jordan
Yes, you can explore Jordan by e-bike. Experience Jordan Adventures was the first tour company to introduce e-bike tours in Jordan. We also developed the Jordan Bike Trail, the national cycling route, and spent three years working with the authorities until e-bikes were officially permitted for licensed adventure tour companies in 2024. Today, e-bikes let families, casual riders and experienced cyclists ride Jordan’s hills, canyons and desert together.
Who are e-bike tours in Jordan for?
Jordan is hilly, and for years that meant cycling tours here were only for strong, experienced riders. An e-bike changes that. The motor helps on the climbs, so you can:
- ride longer distances and see more of the country in a day
- travel with friends or family who ride at a different level from you
- enjoy a cycling holiday without training like a racer
Many of our guests finish longer distances and see more scenery on an e-bike than they could on a standard bike. You still pedal, so it is still active, just at a pace that suits you.
Where can you ride an e-bike in Jordan?
Our e-bike tours follow some of the most spectacular stages of the Jordan Bike Trail, between the mountains of Dana and Petra and the desert of Wadi Rum. On our 8-day Cycle Jordan: Jordan Bike Trail through Petra and Wadi Rum tour you ride four days, about 200 km in total and around half of it off-road:
- Shobak Castle to Little Petra: 50 km, one of the most epic stages of the Jordan Bike Trail, with views over the Dana and Petra mountains
- Little Petra to Wadi Rum: 70 km, a long descent from the King’s Highway, with tea at a Bedouin family’s home on the way
- Wadi Rum mud flats: 37 km across the open desert, followed by a jeep safari
- Wadi Rum to Titen: 41 km between sandstone mountains, before continuing to the Red Sea at Aqaba
Between rides you hike into Petra through the quieter “back door”, sleep in Bedouin camps, and finish with time at the Red Sea and the Dead Sea.

E-bikes and responsible travel
E-bikes let tours cover greater distances, which means more stops in villages along the Jordan Bike Trail, more homestays and more meals with local families. Moving at a human pace instead of sitting on a bus is also a low-carbon way to travel. Experience Jordan Adventures is Travelife Certified for sustainable tourism.
Frequently asked questions
Are e-bikes allowed in Jordan?
Yes. Since 2024, licensed adventure tour companies in Jordan can use e-bikes on cycling tours, as long as the bikes meet the approved specifications. Experience Jordan Adventures worked with other companies and the authorities for three years to make this possible.
Do I need to be fit to ride an e-bike in Jordan?
You need to be comfortable on a bike and in reasonable health, but an e-bike makes the climbs much easier. On a standard bike, Cycle Jordan is rated slightly above moderate, with about 50 km a day and up to 1,000 m of climbing on the hardest day. On an e-bike the same route feels far more manageable.
Can we mix e-bikes and standard bikes in one group?
Yes. That is one of the main reasons people choose an e-bike: riders of different levels can travel together.
When is the best time for an e-bike tour in Jordan?
We run cycling tours all year round. Our busiest seasons are March to the end of June and September to early January, when temperatures are most comfortable for riding.
