Itinerary

Check-in
Arrive and make your way to your hotel in Amman or book an airport transfer with us.

Enjoy
Amman is one of the oldest cities in the world, inhabited since the bronze age. The city is growing into a modern city but retains its character and history.

Depending on your flight arrival time, you may have free time to explore the capital city on your own.

Overnight in Amman.

Meeting Point & Time
Hotel Lobby at 7 am. We will then drive to Petra and arrive at 10 am.

Petra
Enter the Nabatean city of Petra through the magnificent tall and narrow canyon entrance to Petra known as the Siq. Witness the ancient city like the travelers of old along the main trail.

Free Exploration
Free time to further explore the magical site of Petra on your own, to enjoy at the cave bar, or to rest up for tomorrow. For the adventurous, there are several good options to explore including Jabal Khubtha, Um Bayyara, and more!

Meeting Point & Time
Meet up 10 am after breakfast. From there we head to the village of Um Sayhoun, the village where the Bedouins living in the site of Petra were moved to when Petra became a National Park.

Bdoul Trail
We’ll head down an old Nabatean Trail into the site. We call this the Bdoul Trail since this is the trail that the Bedouin tribe “Bdoul” of Um Sayhoun take to go and work in the site of Petra.

Wadi Farasa
We will arrive at the Wadi (valley) in the heart of Petra and cross the Colonnaded Street in the Ancient Roman City to Wadi Farasa passing many sites including the Renaissance Tomb, the Soldier Tomb.

High Place of Sacrifice
Then we’ll climb up to the High Place of Sacrifice with sweeping views of the Royal Tombs and the center of Petra.

Madrass Trail
From there we head on the Madras Trail tucked in the hills south of the Siq arriving near the Obelisk Tomb before ending the day at the Visitor Center.

Finish
From there where head to the Visitor’s Center where we end the tour for today.

Shobak Castle
Start the day with a short transfer to Shobak Castle, the first of a series of Crusader Castles built in Jordan to control the region’s trade.

Cycle
From Shobak we start our ride on one of the most epic stages of the Jordan Bike Trail to Little Petra. Mostly on dirt tracks with a section of paved roads, this route leads us around the mountains of Dana and Petra with great views across the Jordan Valley. Lunch boxes will be provided on our way by a local family from Petra.

Little Petra
Close to the end of the ride enjoy a visit to Little Petra – an ancient suburb of Petra.

Bedouin Camp
We’ll stay at a Bedouin camp, hidden behind the region’s typical sandstone mushroom rocks, where you will get a first-hand impression of the traditional Bedouin hospitality.

Ride Stats
46 Km; +945m; -1255m; Max grade: 16,4%; Avg grade: 1,1%

Start
After breakfast, we will take a short transfer up the hill from Petra to a nice spot off the main road and just past the small town of Rajif.

Cycle
Today’s ride is a long descent off-road towards Wadi Rum followed by an enjoyable flat section on hard sand in the wide-open desert. Lunch will be served by a local Bedouin family on our way.

Wadi Rum
Upon arrival to Wadi Rum change your bike for another, more ‘desert-proof,’ means of transportation – a 4×4 truck. The late afternoon light is perfect to highlight the magical desert landscape. Then settle on top of a sand dune to watch one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.

Ride Stats
48,7 Km; +335m; -1029m; Max grade: 14,0%; Avg grade: -1,4%.

Route can be extended further towards Wadi Rum (Time Permitting): Additional distance: 42,0 Km; +374m; -256m; Max grade: 6,3%; Avg grade: – 0,1%.

Jeep Transfer
After an early breakfast, we’ll head out on Jeeps to Jabal Umm Ad-Dami near the southernmost point of the nature reserve and the border with Saudi Arabia

Summit Jabal Umm Ad-Dami (1854M)
This moderate hike will take 2-3 hours from the bottom to the top where amazing panoramic desert views await.

Lunch at Camp
We’ll then head back to camp for a cooked lunch reward.

Jeep Transfer
After lunch and some time to settle, we’ll head out into the desert again for further exploration into the vastness of the desert. We’ll explore rock canyons and bridges nestled in the desert with great views before sunset.

Depart
Today, we will leave the desert and proceed to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth.

Relax at Dead Sea
You can spend some time floating in the salty waters, try out the ‘magical’ Dead Sea mud, relax by the pool, or pamper yourself with some spa treatments – the perfect cure if your legs are still tired and sore from all the hiking.

Head Back to Amman
In the late afternoon, we will hop on the bus for the last time, and follow the long, winding road up to Amman – to return to where the adventure began.

Overnight: Hotel in Amman.

Check-out
Our standard package finishes here.

Depart to Airport
Make your own way to the airport or book an airport transfer with us.

Notes:
Bedouin Camps:
Rooming on a twin-share basis. So travelers booking together will share a room.

These are fixed site, touristic Bedouin Camps, staffed by locals, in Little Petra and Wadi Rum. Bathrooms are normally off-suite, with a women’s and men’s public bathroom.

The main airport (QAIA – Queen Alia International Airport) is approximately 1-hour outside of Amman.

Arrival:
Day 1 is scheduled just for your arrival and check-in.

Therefore any flight arriving on Day 1, with enough time to arrive, make it to the hotel, and get some sleep, is a good choice.

If you would like to arrive a day or so early, that’s great! You can easily book an add-on for one extra night on either end of your tour. Let us know and we can book extra nights and/or additional activities. Or feel free to arrange things on your own and join the group when it’s time.

Departure:
Day 9 is scheduled just for your check-out and departure to the airport.

Therefore a morning / mid-day departure flight on Day 9 is ideal.

It is possible to have a departure flight on day 8. If you chose to do so, we recommend a flight that departs at least after 7 pm.

Departing on Day 8 makes things a bit more rushed and more tiring. But this option may work well for people with relatively short flights, less time off, or if the airfare available just happens to be a better deal that day.

We are operating these trips during the best times of year to trek in Jordan.

Throughout the year, at the camps during the night you will want to have long pants, and a light jacket or sweatshirt.

During November, December, and February, you may also want warmer clothes like a bigger jacket, hats, gloves, and a light rain jacket.

We know we are located in the Middle East, but don’t worry – Jordan is not that hot. We don’t offer many departures in the Summer for that reason, but May has the potential to be on the warmer side. During the warmest times this trip operates, the temperature is usually not much over 35 celsius (95 Fahrenheit).

This is a challenging trip. The two cycling days are the most difficult part of the trip. Both cycling rides are about 50 kilometers or 30 miles long on dirt jeep tracks. See more in the “ride stats” section of their itinerary descriptions.

Other than the two cycling days, the trip includes moderate difficulty hiking with a little bit of scrambling.

Shoes
The ideal shoe for this hike is light-weight hiking shoes.

If you only have big-clunky hiking boots and running/athletic shoes, you could take both and see what you prefer on the hike.

Hiking

Hiking Sticks/Poles
The vast majority of people do not use hiking sticks for this tour.

However, if you like hiking with Hiking sticks/poles, or want them just in case, feel free to bring them.

Bikes:
Our bikes are Scott Aspect 740 bikes. They are light hardtail mountain bikes, which are well suited for this tour’s mix of both on-road and non-technical off-road riding.

Pedals & Seats
The bikes have standard flat pedals and standard seats. If you would like, you can bring your own bike seat and pedals (including SPD’s). We will be fit your bike equipment for you.

Helmet
A helmet will be provided for you. Again, if you would like to bring your own, please do.
