The best way to experience the real Jordan

Experience Jordan is an offshoot of a larger company which has been organizing tours to Jordan and the Holy Land for many years. The inspiration came from the owners passion for walking and followed on from earlier work done by a group called Abraham’s Path who worked to establish a walking trail trhough Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan, and also from walks pioneered by the British explorers Tony Howard and Di Taylor. Due to circumstances sections of the trail (particularly in Syria) are no longer accessible, however Experience Jordan continue to promote the sections of the trail which lie in the picturesque North West corner of Jordan and tend to radiate out from a district called Ayoun, which is around 80 minutes drive from the capital Amman. The groups usually assemble in Amman each weekend, and car share to the starting point of the walk, where they are met by an experienced local guide from the Ayoun district. The walks vary in length and difficulty (all of which is explained in detail in the Experience Jordan email notifications), but always pass through areas of outstanding natural beauty, and often include sites of historic interest. At the end of the walk, transport is provided to take the group back to the starting point, and from where they all proceed to a local house to enjoy traditional Jordanian hospitality and a substantial meal. I have participated in the walks a number of times and enjoy the wide mix of agegroups and nationalities that I have encountered. I have actually done some of the walks more than once but at different times of the year and have been fascinated by the changes of landscape which occur in Jordan, from lush green in Spring time to dry and brown in the Autumn. Whether you are in Jordan for a short or long time, participation in Experience Jordan weekly walks will certainly enrich your stay.
