A Journey Through Time: Dana Reserve to Little Petra

The contrasting landscapes and biodiversity of the mutli-day hike from Dana Reserve to Little Petra is an attraction in and of itself, but what really makes the journey unique is the range of historic sites along the way. The walk begins in the recent ruins of Dana Village, providing a picture of village life in Jordan in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The trail leads you down through Feynan, this site of ancient copper mines dating back 3,000 years and speculated by some to be the source of Biblical King Salomon’s great wealth. As you continue on your journey the path leads you past watchtowers from the Roman Empire until you finally reach the impressive facades built by the Nabatean’s in Little Petra.

Experiencing the landscape through knowledgeable guides from Experience Jordan provides for a rich journey through time with the benefit of learning the context for the places you pass. Besides the interesting sites along the way, the three day hike was supported by vehicles and wonderful cooks who kept us well fed and greeted us with a welcome cup of tea at the end of every day’s hike. Altogether a wonderful experience.
